Questions, answered.

Balance, validity, usage in store and on Sephora.com, lost code, refund — every question we get about Sephora gift cards, answered in plain language.

What is a Sephora gift card?

A Sephora gift card is a prepaid payment method valid on Sephora's full beauty catalog — fragrance, makeup, skincare, haircare, tools and small electricals. It comes in three formats: physical (plastic card sold in store or online), e-gift (digital code emailed instantly), and prepaid card (issued for returns). You then use it to pay at Sephora.com or in any Sephora store.

Click the "Check Balance" button at the top of this page. You'll be redirected to the official Sephora platform, where you enter the card number and PIN. The balance appears immediately, no account required, no card details stored on our side.

On a physical card, the gift card number is printed on the back and the PIN is hidden under a scratch-off panel. On an e-gift card, both the number and PIN are shown in the confirmation email Sephora sent you at purchase. For a prepaid card issued after a return, the code is on the receipt or on the back of the new card.

In the US and Canada, Sephora gift cards generally do not expire — federal regulations protect prepaid card balances from inactivity fees for at least five years from purchase, and Sephora typically goes beyond that. In other markets (UK, EU, AU), an expiration date may apply: it's printed on the card or in the email. The exact validity is always displayed when you check the balance online.

Yes. The Sephora gift card works on Sephora.com (enter the code in the "Gift card" field at checkout), on the Sephora mobile app (added to your Wallet), and in every Sephora store worldwide. Note: a card issued in USD (Sephora US) may not be directly usable on Sephora.ca or Sephora.uk without limitations — always check the currency on your card.

Absolutely. The unused balance stays available for your next order, online or in store, until it's fully spent or — outside the US — until the card's expiration date. You can also stack several gift cards on a single Sephora.com checkout.

Yes. A Sephora gift card acts as a payment method, not a discount — so it stacks freely with ongoing promotions, seasonal sales, Beauty Insider bonuses, and Sephora promo codes. Use the promo first, then pay the remaining amount with your gift card balance.

No. Per Sephora's terms and conditions, gift cards are not refundable for cash once issued (except where state law requires it, e.g. California for balances under $10). The balance remains usable on Sephora products until depletion. If a product paid with the gift card is returned, the refund is credited back to the original gift card or to a new prepaid card.

No, Sephora gift cards are not reloadable. Once the balance reaches zero, the card is closed. To gift more value, simply purchase a new gift card — multiple cards can be combined at checkout.

Yes. We never see, store or transmit your gift card code. The "Check Balance" button is a direct HTTPS redirect to the official Sephora platform, which applies PCI-DSS, SSL and (where applicable) GDPR or CCPA standards. On our side, we only log anonymous visit data — no personal info.

No. The balance check is completely free. There is no subscription, no commission, no hidden fee. You can check your card as many times as you want, from any device, at any hour.

Yes. The Sephora balance portal — and this site — are fully optimized for smartphone, tablet and desktop. The lookup takes under ten seconds, in store, on the go or at home.
